The Construction Association of Nova Scotia (CANS) represents more than 700 large and small companies that build, renovate and restore non-residential buildings, roads, bridges and other engineering projects.
We are an industry trade association representing the interests of contractors, suppliers and service providers throughout Atlantic Canada and across the country.
Our members include firms in the non-residential construction industry.
Since it was founded in 1862, CANS membership has grown to more than 700 companies.
We are a registered not-for-profit society accountable to a volunteer board of directors.
A staff of ten work out of our head office in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
CANS is affiliated with and contributes to the Canadian Construction Association and the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada.
Since our inception almost 150 years ago, CANS has built upon a solid foundation. Driven by the dedication of our staff and board of directors, service delivery is the basis of our foundation.
As those familiar with the construction industry know, without a solid foundation, failure is inevitable. We pride ourselves on providing quality service and programs to our members; and that is why we have stood the test of time.
Our Highlights
CANSNet provides project information on approximately $20 billion in construction investment activity around Atlantic Canada.
We offer a comprehensive range of continuing education programs to our membership and industry partners.
CANS members have access to more information and services and pay lower dues than many other associations across Canada.
CANS recognizes member companies that have succeeded in business and held a membership beyond 25 years. Over 140 member companies have received Bowman Awards which were named for past chairman Earle Bowman. His dedication as a CANS volunteer spanned more than 50 years.
We reward our current members who become sponsors for new members to our association with a prize draw at our annual meeting.
