WHAT'S NEW AT NSCC

Partnership Overview

On June 13, 2007, CANS announced a partnership with NSCC a commitment to raise $2.5 million in support of student awards to commemorate our 150th anniversary as an association. To accomplish this, CANS is relying on our members and the industry to rally together for this unified goal. This $2.5 million endowment goal with the NSCC Foundation will provide student scholarships and bursaries at Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC).

As of January 2010, CANS member companies and industry organizations have committed $1,300,000 to NSCC scholarships as part of our campaign. A list of contributors can be found under the menu heading 'Industry Investors'.

These awards will help attract students to construction-related programs to meet the growing needs of the construction sector.

“A highly skilled workforce is not only the backbone of the current economy, but the means by which the province will be able to realize its full economic potential,” said Joan McArthur-Blair, President, NSCC. “Working with CANS on this important issue is a natural fit for NSCC. This is an extraordinary partnership that benefits NSCC students.”

David Oulton, General Manager of Marid Industries, a member of the CANS Board of Directors and a recent addition to the Board of Directors of NSCC’s Foundation has taken on the role of Chair for this campaign.

“CANS is committed to helping close the skill shortage here in Nova Scotia and what better way to accomplish this goal than with a strong commitment to NSCC,” says Oulton. “CANS has 700 member organizations and is positioned well to make a bold statement about the industry’s value to Nova Scotia.”
