    Employer Agreement 2010

    The Construction Association of NS (CANS) has designed the Building Futures for Youth program for high school co-operative education students in order to promote awareness and increase the number of youth choosing careers in the construction industry.

    Employer Responsibilites:

    • Provide a safe work environment, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
    • Provide copy of Certificate of Recognition
    • Attend an Employer mentorship training session (1/2 day)
    • Participate in the interview process and selection of program candidates
    • Support workplace mentoring by sending one jounrneyperson/supervisor for Mentorship training
    • Ensure supervised skills training and the mentoring of the pre-apprentice
    • Participate in the ongoing evaluation of the pre-apprentice
    • Provide a paid summer work placement for a Construction Trade Pre-Apprentice
    • Remit $1/hr to CANS for each hour worked by the pre-apprentice
    • Abide by the Terms and Conditions contained in the Apprenticeship Trades and Qualification Act, General Regulations and Trades Regulations where applicable
