Thank you for attending CANS 2026 Stanhope Simpson Insurance Women in Construction Forum

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the CANS 2026 Stanhope Simpson Insurance Women in Construction Forum on September 24 at the Cedar Event Centre.

This year’s forum was the largest yet. CANS brought together professionals from across Nova Scotia’s construction industry to connect, support and inspire one another through meaningful conversations, practical learning opportunities, and valuable networking. We were pleased to welcome attendees from all corners of the industry who share a commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive workforce.

The day began with networking and an exhibitor showcase before attendees heard opening remarks from emcee and presenting sponsor, Victoria Stanhope. Attendees then participated in a series of engaging sessions focused on mentorship, workplace culture, professional development, and the unique experiences of women working in construction.

Participants gained valuable insights from:

  • Kelly Bennett, Abacus Data, who explored the often unseen responsibilities and challenges women carry in both their professional and personal lives.
  • Allison Godwin and Tracy Smith, BOYNECLARKE LLP, who led an insightful discussion on mentorship and the important role it plays in navigating and advancing careers in traditionally male-dominated industries.
  • Jennie West-Correia, West Reach Development, who facilitated an interactive session on building professional presence and networking with purpose.
  • Dr. Ashley Margeson, whose keynote address, Built to Last: Building the Foundation for Lifelong Wellbeing, provided practical strategies for managing stress, sustaining energy, and supporting long-term personal and professional success.

Throughout the day, attendees connected with peers, industry leaders, exhibitors, and community partners while sharing experiences and exploring ways to strengthen support networks across the construction sector.

The conversations reinforced several important themes: the value of mentorship, the importance of creating inclusive workplaces, the need to support leadership development at all levels, and the power of authentic connections in helping individuals and organizations succeed.

Thank you to our presenting sponsor, Stanhope Simpson Insurance, and event partner, Nova Scotia Community College. Thank you as well as our sponsors, exhibitors, speakers, volunteers, and attendees whose contributions helped make this event a success.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who participated, shared their experiences, asked thoughtful questions, and contributed to the positive and welcoming atmosphere that defined the forum. Your engagement helped create meaningful discussions that will continue well beyond this event.
