Construction Association of Nova Scotia Holds 164th Annual General Meeting

The Construction Association of Nova Scotia (CANS) celebrated another year of growth, strong financial performance, and industry leadership at its 164th Annual General Meeting, while welcoming new Board leadership and highlighting significant construction opportunities across the region.

The morning opened with presentations from representatives of Defence Construction Canada (DCC) and the Department of National Defence (DND), who provided members with insight into upcoming defence-related construction opportunities, procurement activity, and future infrastructure investments expected across the region. The presentations highlighted significant infrastructure investments across the region and reinforced the important role construction partners play in supporting Canada’s defence operations.

During the Annual General Meeting, members received reports from the Board of Directors, CEO, Treasurer, and committee chairs outlining the association’s activities and achievements throughout 2025-2026.

Among the highlights shared:
  • Increased membership and strengthened member engagement across Nova Scotia.
  • Expanded education and training opportunities that reached hundreds of industry professionals through classroom, virtual, and on-demand learning.
  • Advanced workforce development initiatives focused on recruitment, retention, immigration, and industry awareness.
  • Strengthened advocacy efforts related to procurement, infrastructure investment, and workforce development priorities affecting the construction sector.

Members also reviewed and approved the audited financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. The association reported a strong financial position, with revenues exceeding $4 million and an operating surplus of more than $122,000, reinforcing its ability to continue investing in member services and industry initiatives.

The AGM included the presentation of the 2026-2027 Board of Directors and recognition of outgoing Board members for their service and contributions to the association. Members also thanked outgoing Chair Mike Clements for his leadership over the past year and welcomed Heather Cruickshanks as Chair of the Board, marking an important leadership transition and a new chapter for the association.
