Outdoor Learning Space Being Built at Cobequid Educational Centre Inspired by Emily Tuck

On April 18 and 19, 2020, we were rocked by the news of a mass shooting in Portapique, a small community in Nova Scotia. As the one-year anniversary of this horrific event approaches, our thoughts remain with all of the families and communities impacted by this senseless tragedy.

Emily Tuck was among those killed. She participated in CANS Building Futures for Youth program as a grade 11 in 2019 and was particularly interested in welding. She completed her summer work placement with Global Construction Maritimes.

Inspired by Emily’s love for hands-on projects and the outdoors, as well as the need for an outdoor learning space due to the global pandemic, a gazebo is being built at Emily’s former school, Cobequid Educational Centre. While this project has received support from various community partners, they are still looking for either monetary donations or materials to assist with the build.
