Construction Association of Nova Scotia launches new brand identity

HALIFAX, October 28, 2013 -The Construction Association of Nova Scotia (CANS) officially launched its new brand at the 151st Annual General Meeting held at Digby Pines Golf Resort and Spa October 4-6th, 2013.

“Our members told us they wanted the new CANS brand to capture the scope of our membership across the province and region; highlight the many facets of the industry; and be reflective of the organization’s long history,” says CANS President Duncan Williams. “The new brand was created as part of a consultation process with our members across the province.”

The new CANS logo, which is a reflection of the growing and evolving industry, was arrived at after a two-year-long rebranding consultation process that drew on member feedback through focus groups and surveys.

“We asked two central questions throughout our consultation with members,” adds Williams. “‘What does CANS represent to you?’ and, ‘Where do you want to see the industry and the Association in 5, 10 and 15 years?’”

The new CANS logo and tagline symbolize the integrity, stability, confidence and expertise of CANS and the industry and is representative of all aspects of the diverse industry, from bridges, to roadways, to the industrial.

To accompany the new visual identity the CANS website,, has also had a major overhaul.

“The new design of our website will help to ensure we are sharing the information our members want and need and will ultimately make it easier for CANS to respond to issues faster,” says Williams.

“Of course branding goes far beyond a logo, tagline and website overhaul, we also heard through our consultations that our members are looking to CANS to be ahead of the curve, on top of new technology, issues and services,” adds Williams. “CANS staff and committees are always working on this front to ensure that the high level of customer service our members expect continues to improve and evolve.”

CANS represents more than 760 large and small companies that build, renovate and restore non-residential buildings, roads, bridges and other engineering projects. We are an industry trade association representing the interests of contractors, suppliers and service providers throughout Atlantic Canada and across the country.
